Maasai Christian Mission Report: Changing Lives in Kenya
Pastor Kerry and Maasai Warrior Charles in Kenya
The Back Story
Hi, this is Karen, I wanted to share with you a report on how things are going with the Maasai Christian Mission. But first let me provide a little background for those of you who haven't been following what has taken place this year.
This picture was taken about 20 years ago when Pastor Kerry (my dad) was on a short term mission in Kenya serving Tumaini International. Afterwards a few people from the group went on a safari in Maasai Mara. Kerry met Charles who was there to guard the area from wild animals, including lions. They stayed in touch from time to time via Facebook.
Earlier this year Charles reached out to Kerry because he wanted to learn more about Jesus and Christianity. As they talked, he shared about the need in his home area of Loita. That conversation became the beginning of this new mission. And God has been at work guiding them along the way.
Local Leaders: Charles and Richard
Charles, whose Maasai name is Olekuya Charles, serves as the Regional Director for the mission in Loita.
His relative, Richard Saruni, serves as the Outreach Director. Richard has attended Bible college and has a heart for church planting, training leaders, and helping people grow in their relationship with the Lord.
When Pastor Kerry asked what would be most helpful, the request was clear: they need a place for the church to meet.
Previously the congregation gathered under a tree and sat on the ground to hear God’s Word. At times rain would be pouring down or the sun was blazing overhead.
An Immediate Solution
The original estimate for a church building was just under $30,000. For a new mission with no funds, that was simply more than we could take on at once. So we decided to begin step by step.
- Step one: Provide a large tent for the church to use.
- Step two: Provide plastic chairs so people do not have to sit on the ground.
- Step three: Build a latrine for restrooms.
- Step four: Church growth has led us to purchase another large tent.

Making Heaven Crowded
Our ultimate goal is we want to reach as many people as possible. After Jesus' resurrection He gave this charge: go into all the world, make disciples of all nations, baptize them in the name of the Father, Son, and Holy Spirit, and teach them to obey all that He commanded.
Future goals include:
- A church building, the original estimate was just under $30,000.
- Sponsorship for children in extreme poverty.
- Plant churches, train leaders, disciple Christians, and support the community.
Every gift for Maasai Christian Mission is tax deductible through New Destiny Network. The receipt will list New Destiny Network, but 100 percent of funds given go to the mission for Maasai Christians in Kenya.
Maasai Christian Mission has adopted this fitting promise: “The lions may grow weak and hungry, but those who seek the Lord lack no good thing.” It reflects both the setting of this ministry and the confidence we have in God’s provision.
We are grateful for every person who prays, encourages, gives, and comes alongside this effort. Make an eternal difference at outreachkenya.org.
